Full disclosure, Sweat Life founder Aly Teich and I are old college friends. We caught up a few months ago when I was on business in NYC — I was able to share about the Pear Sports fitness training app for your phone, and Aly told me all about The Sweat Life. Proud to say we’re both spending less time these days in the sweaty bars of Madison, WI (shout out to the Kollege Klub!) and more time in sweaty gyms around the country!
Considering you’re on this website, you probably have a strong interest in health and fitness (Captain Obvious over here!). For many of you, that means a combination of group fitness and solo sessions. And you’re probably tracking it all though a device or app. You’ve got an extensive log of miles, calories, steps, and more.
But have you ever thought: “Thanks for showing me what I’ve done, but can somebody please tell me what to do next?”
Don’t get me wrong, if you’re working with a trainer on a consistent basis who understands your fitness level and your goals, you’re probably getting a lot of great instruction. But for many people, that option is expensive and not always realistic on a day-to-day basis. Days are unexpected, and life gets busy sometimes. Wouldn’t it be great to have tailored coaching available anytime, anywhere?
That’s where the idea behind PEAR originated. The founders, with their history in audio products and training, were approached several years ago by a team of cycling coaches training a certain infamous American Tour de France rider. They were interested in a system where they could communicate with and coach their athlete from their car, while he was on his bike. They wanted their rider just to ride, and if they had to tell him something, or provide encouragement, or report stats, they could do so at the right moment, without disrupting his effort. This was a good idea. But we thought an even better idea would be providing that coaching for anyone, especially considering most of us don't have a team of trainers at our beck and call!
PEAR stands for Performance Enhancing Audio Research. You want to focus on your training and putting everything in to your workout — you don’t want to be second guessing if you’re in the right zone, or doing the right workout, or if your watch just beeped at you; or if you did the math right on how long you’ve been at the current effort level. You want a world-class coach, and you want them on your time, and where you want to workout.
PEAR is a smart training system that does exactly that. Download the free app, do a quick calibration, select your goals, and PEAR takes over from there. PEAR curates your workouts and then coaches you in real-time, based on your body’s response to the workout. So say you’ve got an hour, you want to go for a run outside, and your goal is to simply burn fat. Tell PEAR that, and it’ll recommend several coached workouts that will make sure you’re doing exactly that through your entire workout. No more wondering if you should have run faster (or slower), done intervals, or kept at a specific heart-rate. Just turn your music on, start your workout, and one of PEAR’s world-class coaches will guide you through your workout. It’s that simple.
And yes, I did say world-class. PEAR workouts are created and coached by Olympians, world-champions, and celebrity trainers. Our coaches guide you through workouts ranging from running to spinning to kettle bells, to hockey, skiing, kayaking, and more. Imagine having American Record Holder Deena Kastor coach you through your morning run. Have an upcoming ski trip planned? Switch over to ski specific workouts with Olympian Kaylin Richardson, and be ready for the slopes in no time. Love the feel of a boot camp class? Give Nancy Anderson’s Tread and Shred workouts a try. There are thousands of options, with more being added everyday. Why not challenge yourself to something new?
For a limited time, you can try our subscription service free for a month, just click here. Subscription gives you unlimited access to our entire library of workouts risk-free. In addition, we’ve got a special promo code for Sweat Life readers (code: sweatlife) that will give you 25% off our Mobile Training kit, which includes a bluetooth heart rate monitor and headphones, to complete the package and take your training to the next level.
