Q&A with Tom Cronin, Founder
Tom Cronin is the founder of The Stillness Project, a global movement to inspire 1 billion people to meditate daily. After discovering meditation as a tool for stress in the early stages of his 26-year career in finance, Tom explored deeper into his meditation practice, eventually becoming a meditation teacher, studying in Bali, India, and Australia. Today, he runs retreats in Australia, Bali, and Hawaii, and trains thousands of people all over the world how to meditate, through his online program Faster Deeper Bliss. His mission: to give everyone the benefits of just being still. We asked Tom to tell us more.
What is the Stillness Project & what does it mean to you to be spreading stillness?
The Stillness Project (TSP) is a movement to inspire 1 billion people to meditate daily. We are inspired to do this because we see a daily experience of stillness to have remarkable healing effects on the mind and body, and open us up to our spirituality.
What prompted you to take mediation beyond your own life, and spread it on such a global scale?
I was suffering anxiety, panic attacks, and depression. Nothing was curing this until I found deep meditation. It was so life-changing that I was compelled to share it with the world.
Running such a large business, even a wellness business, can be stressful. How do you keep centered and peaceful?
Meditation! I’m also sure to balance out my time with family, friends, exercise, and time in nature.
What do you think is the biggest benefit of meditation?
A reorganization back to wellness and health in the mind and body.
What would you say to someone who is skeptical or fearful about meditation?
It's understandable, we often fear the unknown. So that’s okay. Speak to people who have been through it, and see how they feel about it. If it has enhanced their life, and you would like to enhance yours, then give it a go. If it’s not for you then that’s okay too… you can simply stop whenever you want.
Do you have any advice for someone who feels stuck at a crossroads in their life?
Yes, start meditating. As Einstein said: “We can not solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them.” Meditation will help you open up your mind and see a more creative solution to any problem. Every problem and dilemma has a creative solution to it.
Any final words or advice for readers?
No matter how wild, crazy, or turbulent life is, there is always an inner peace and calm within us. Meditation will help you find some stability inside, while there is instability outside.
