True story: I started working out when I was 13 years old, because I thought it would be a great way to get a girlfriend.
Listen, it was the ‘90s and all the girls in my junior high were obsessed with guys like Marky Mark and that dude, Eric from The Grind (don’t front, you know exactly who I’m talking about). My acute powers of detection led me to discover that these guys had one thing I didn’t: muscles. That had to be the reason I didn’t have a girlfriend! So, I convinced my parents to get some workout equipment, set it up in my basement, and went to town. Pretty shortly after, it started working.
And by working, I mean I got some little baby muscles, not a girlfriend. No, unfortunately working out didn’t do a thing to help me in that department. So much for my mythical powers of detection. But what I discovered through working out was something that would stay with me, and define my beliefs, and inform the way I coach others, for life.
We’re all stronger than we think.
My workouts are intense. They’re intense, but totally doable at all fitness levels. I have seen time and time again, through work on myself and with tens of thousands of people around the world, that when you push yourself beyond your perceived limits, it can create a radical shift in your mindset.
Prove to yourself that you’re stronger than you thought in your body, and you start to question what else you’re capable of in all areas of your life. It’s a game-changer. That smoking hot body just becomes an awesome by-product.
Over the years, I’ve worked with everyone from A-list celebs and pro athletes to everyday fitness enthusiasts and folks who’ve never worked out a day in their lives. They all share two major things in common: a belief that they don’t have enough time to workout, and that they have to kill themselves for hours a day to get in great shape.
I created The 30 Second Body as a way to dispel those ideas by giving people a simple, incredibly affordable program that proves you don’t actually need a lot of time to get in great shape. I’ve taken things that took me years of study and practice to learn, and made them available to you in just a few pages. This book is literally a blueprint to your best body. I wrote it in three parts.
Train Dirty: A 6-week high-intensity workout program that can be done absolutely anywhere and requires nothing more than your own bodyweight.
Eat Clean: A chapter that simplifies the wild and stupidly confusing world of diets and teaches you how to eat to slim down and feel amazing.
Live Hard: The third part of the book trains the most important muscle — your mind. Let’s face it. If all you needed to get in great shape was information, then anyone with access to the internet would have 6-pack abs. Not the case, right? This is arguably the most important part of the book because it teaches you how to instill a system of positive habits, so that you can actually do the work needed to get results.
I’m really proud of all the support the book has been getting. A big piece of feedback has been from folks saying how simple this stuff is. And that’s so important. Keeping things simple sets you up for success.
How many times have you gotten super excited about a new fitness regimen, and fired off the starting line only to burn out because the path you’ve started down is too cumbersome and complicated? When that happens, the key is to not beat yourself up. Just simplify.
If you love all of your workouts to be an hour plus, then this program isn’t for you. But if you want to knock out the best session of your life in less than 20 minutes, before you even leave the house, I can help.
Here’s the ugly truth: fitness and diet information is largely so confusing for a reason. The more confused you are, the more products people can sell you. But if you arm yourself with just a little quality info, and put in some good old-fashioned work on your end, you’ll reap the rewards for the rest of your life.
Whether it’s with my book or some other program, I encourage you to challenge yourself. Don’t put it off. Push yourself beyond your comfort zone, and I promise you’ll realize something extraordinarily powerful: You’re stronger than you think.
I’m excited to work with The Sweat Life and founder Aly Teich to extend a special offer to the entire Sweat Life community. For every one of you that would like to purchase “The 30-Second Body,” I’m happy to donate $1 to Stand Up to Cancer, an important cause helping to stop the spread of cancer — and something Aly and the whole Sweat Life team is particularly passionate about. All you have to do is order the book and forward your receipt to firstname.lastname@example.org with "Sweat Life" in the subject line. It’s that easy! Let’s kick cancer’s butt.
