Qualities I love in a woman
The Sweat Life asked me to whip up a little something in honor of Valentine’s Day, about the qualities that I find attractive in a woman. You know Valentine’s Day, the holiday where loved ones (and recent Craig’s List connections who don’t want to spend the holiday alone) come together. Here we go:
I believe philosopher and hood poet Rae Sremmurd beautifully encapsulates my thoughts on attraction with his graceful prose in the song “No Type.” This modern-day Hemingway states that “he ain’t got no type” and that “bad bi***es is the only thing that I like.” While this line may not have the eloquent touch of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, I think it perfectly sums up what most men find attractive in women, and certainly what I, myself, find the most alluring.
Misogynistic phrasing aside (sorry Mom), the undertone of that message is that confidence is the most attractive trait a woman can possess. Absolute, unwavering confidence. This doesn’t mean perfection, and this certainly doesn’t mean this ideal woman walks around thinking her proverbial sh*t doesn’t stink. That would be cockiness, a very phony version of confidence. To paraphrase another poet, when I sense cockiness, I drop it like it is indeed hot.
What this DOES mean is that this woman, flaws and perfections alike, is truly happy and empowered by the person she is. Confidence is not something that you can fake, and it’s definitely not something that you wear on the soles of your Louboutins. It doesn’t waver in the face of adversity, a pimple, a pair of ill-fitting jeans, or a stressful day at work. It is a presence. A state of being. A tattoo you wear forever that no one can rub off, unlike those shiny flash tattoos (speaking of which, can we stop this ladies, please!?! Get a real one!).
Confidence is something that she carries with her every time she leaves the house, without fail. It is beautiful, it is sexy, and it is the best way to not only strike someone's attention, but to keep it forever. Good and bad emotions are temporary, but confidence makes all these feelings much easier to deal with. So ladies, no matter what you feel like, what you look like, walk around like you know the world is better for you being in it, because it is. Us men would still be lost Neanderthals, beating each other senseless over our favorite rocks, without you — even though most won’t admit it.
... and butts … nice well-rounded, squats for days, butts!
