I grew up in Colorado, near where the Columbine shootings took place nearly two decades ago. Having known families that were personally affected by that tragedy, it was hard for my young mind to comprehend how such acts of hate could even be possible. What is even more confounding is that, years later, not only has NO progress been made to prevent such senseless acts of violence and hate from occurring, but these horrid events are becoming more frequent every year.
As a mother with a young daughter of my own, I can only pray that change occurs SOON to amend the laws that allow weapons to be so easily accessible. I pray that I can send my daughter to school and not fear for her safety from a senselessly used firearm. And I pray she will only know a world where love IS love, no matter your race, gender, or sexuality identity.
