By Whitney Tingle and Danielle DuBoise, Founders of Sakara Life
Sakara is a Sanskrit word that means “thoughts to things.” In other words, what you think, you create. And it all starts with food — it’s the foundation for all kinds of genuine, total-life change. We believe that what you eat influences all areas of your life — not just your health and your body, but also your career, your relationships, your creativity and beyond. We developed this program as a solution to our own struggles with food — things you can probably relate to, like acne, weight gain, and body image issues — and we can attest to the fact that it is truly transformative. Whether you just need a periodic reset or want to overhaul your lifestyle completely, we are confident in the results this program delivers: we’re talking brighter skin, better moods, more energy and a body you feel sexy in. The Sakara Life isn’t just about reaching goals… it’s about making dreams come true.
We consulted with wellness experts to develop our key pillars of nutrition. These fundamental concepts form the backbone of our program and help us create nutritionally designed meals that work for you, not against you, using fresh, colorful, 100% organic plant-based ingredients and nutrient-rich superfoods in ideal portions. You won’t find any gluten, trans-fats, preservatives, chemicals, or artificial ingredients on the menu here — just fresh food and plenty of love.
Sakara Pillars of Nutrition
No calorie-counting: Calories are a measure of energy, not a food’s quality. And they’re not all created equal. Instead of obsessing over calories, we count macronutrients, vitamins, antioxidants, and colors, and focus on how food makes us feel.
Plant protein: You can get plenty of protein from plant-based sources! Our meals are packed with beans, nuts, seeds, beans, and greens so you get all the protein-building aminos you need to thrive.
Hydrating foods: Don’t just drink your water… eat your water! When you eat water-rich fresh produce (think romaine lettuce and cucumbers), each molecule of h20 is bound up in the structure of those foods, so your body can enjoy deep, sustained cellular hydration.
Greens: This is the #1 secret to getting that Sakara glow! You may eat more greens than you’re used to on the program, but trust us — this is where the most life-changing results come from.
Good fats: Don’t fear the F-word! High-quality omegas will nourish your brain, maintain balanced hormone production, rejuvenate your skin, and help your body assimilate all the wonderful nutrients in your food.
Eat the rainbow: Fruits and veggies get their brilliant colors from the vitamins and antioxidants they contain. By incorporating many hues into your diet, you’ll be sure you’re getting an abundance of nutrients.
Nutrient density: Our meals optimize each and every mealtime with nutrient-dense superfoods that help your body function at its best.
Sulfur-rich vegetables: Cruciferous veggies, like kale, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and cauliflower, contain sulfur, the building block of every metabolic reaction in your body. This cleansing, energizing element helps your liver and kidneys fend off toxins and supports protein production.
Body intelligence: This program helps you build a body you can listen to. Eating this way will recalibrate your system so you can reconnect with your natural hunger point and tune into the cues your body is sending you.
While fresh, colorful, whole foods are the nutritional secret to Sakara success on a cellular level, this program also works because it’s not a diet. Diets are all about deprivation, restriction and guilt. And we all know rules were made to be broken! Instead, this program is a lifestyle: it’s designed to help you establish new, healthy habits, develop a mindful approach to eating, and foster a loving relationship with food and your body. Food is not the enemy — it’s sustenance, medicine, and inspiration for becoming your best possible self. We also think eating and living clean should be fun, so we work with Michelin-starred chefs to give our meals a delicious, gourmet touch. Finally, we know happiness requires balance, which is one reason we don’t deliver on the weekends — that’s your time to get out there, live your life, and enjoy it. Want a glass of red wine or a piece of dark chocolate? Go for it.
Now that you know WHY the Sakara Life program works, let us break down the HOW. Depending on where you live, you can order a one, three, or five-day program, or join one of our four-week challenges. Get three meals a day or choose any combination of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. (Want just breakfast and dinner? Lunch only? It’s totally up to you.) Your delivery windows vary based on your location, but can be tailored to fit your schedule. We’ll deliver your food straight to your door, ready to eat, in insulated packaging with ice packs to keep everything fresh (just pop everything in the fridge when it arrives). You’ll also receive daily Morning and Night Waters, our coveted elixirs infused with superfood ingredients like silica, chlorella, and trace minerals to cleanse, heal, and beautify you from the inside out. And you’ll get two daily servings of Sakara Detox Tea, our proprietary blend of soothing, calming ingredients like rose, red rooibos, and linden flower.
Each meal is labeled with when you should eat it, as well as some enlightening information about the nutrition and ingredients within. You can also get additional guidance from our DIY Cleansing Guide and Guide to Snacking. And for even more daily inspiration on everything from science to spirituality to sexuality, you can visit our S-Life Mag, where we feature recipes, interviews, and musings on living a clean, mindful life.
We believe that you are what you do the majority of the time. And so we created a program that makes it easy for you to eat and live this way as often as possible, so you can reap the most life-changing results. Whether you rely on Sakara as an occasional reset or commit to it full-time, with this program you’re well on your way to your best body ever — and that’s only the beginning.
Whitney Tingle and Danielle DuBoise are the founders of Sakara Life.
Danielle's expertise in holistic nutrition, chemistry, and anthropology equipped her with the tools necessary to think outside the box when it came to food and well-being. As a former model and actress, Danielle's experience with body image, roller coaster diets, and mind-body disconnection inspired her to create a food system that empowered her to make loving, healthy choices for herself, as a lifestyle, not a diet. After carefully crafting a meal program that finally worked for her, she was ready to share her secrets with the world and make the Sakara Life food program available for delivery (only on East Coast for now, but nationwide soon!). Danielle is a certified holistic health coach, advocate, and curator for the wellness and entrepreneurial world. She believes that food should make you feel sexy!
Whitney was working on Wall Street when she realized her true passion was to share her love of health with the financiers who desperately needed her help. She knows what it takes to fight for health in a stressful environment. She had gained 15 pounds working in the corporate office, and was struggling with cystic acne. She had seen every dermatologist in the city, and tried everything from antibiotics, to birth control pills, to acupuncture, acid peels, lights, and lasers. And when her dermatologist suggested that she do a second round of Accutane, she decided there had to be a better way. She turned to her best friend, Danielle, to partner and create a meal plan that allowed her to drop the weight and clear her skin while maintaining her busy lifestyle. As if that wasn’t enough, she also decided to find her Zen while she studied to become a certified yoga instructor. Go ahead, ask her for a stock tip while you’re in downward dog...
