As a trainer, I get so many questions about weight loss, fat burning, the best way, the right way, the fastest way… the questions are endless. If I could just tell people to turn on some good EDM remixes, do “HIIT” training and some strength training, and they’d actually understand what I meant by that, I’d be on cloud nine!
When I first learned that Orangetheory Fitness was exactly that — but with the tools to teach people the most effective way to workout (not to mention the awesome sound system) — I was totally in!
Orangetheory Fitness was founded in Fort Lauderdale in 2010, and is a one-of-a-kind, group personal training workout broken into intervals of cardiovascular and strength training. Backed by the science of excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC), Orangetheory’s heart-rate monitored training is designed to maintain a target heart rate zone that stimulates metabolism and increases energy.
Orangetheory is a 5-zone heart-rate based training program. When you walk in the door, you receive a pod that is calibrated to your body weight, height, and age. It will appear on the screen throughout the workout displaying your heart-rate zones. The “fat-burning zone” that most people are familiar with is where we spend the majority of the class training, however the orange zone is where the magic happens. When we work at 84% of our maximum heart rate or higher, our body continues to use energy (calories) to recover. It also boosts metabolism and creates an increase in our energy levels.
As a coach and trainer, I lead participants through the Orangetheory workout using a variety of equipment, including treadmills, rowing machines, TRX suspension training, and free weights. It is important for me to have my members understand what zone they are working in and why. It creates a measurable goal, and if the desire and determination is there, the workout will produce increased muscle mass, endurance, strength, power, and tremendous body changes. On average, you will burn up to 900 calories per workout including the “afterburn.”
Following the workout, a summary of your results is emailed to you. It will show you how many minutes you’ve spent in each heart-rate zone, and the amount of calories burned. This allows our members to be able to track their workouts and results over time. With consistency, you will begin to see your body working at a much more efficient energy level, and understand the science behind why we do what we do.
There isn’t a single trainer in the business that is able to do that. If someone has a goal to lose weight, get in shape, and better their health, they don’t need a drill sergeant for one hour. They need someone to teach and motivate them, and that is exactly what Orangetheory is all about… and some really good music doesn’t hurt either. (That is something I’ll never let you down on!)
Orangetheory Fitness is a franchise-based company. It has become one of the world’s top fitness franchises, with 225 studios in 28 states, and more than 500 franchise licenses awarded in and outside of the United States. In addition to its newest international location in South America, the brand currently has studios in Canada and the U.K., and has signed a master agreement to bring the concept into Australia.

She most recently competed on the 25th season of "The Amazing Race" on CBS, as one half of the team, "#TheCyclists". Alli combines her creative side and love for fitness every day in and out of the studio. She is currently working on developing a new project that combines her passion for fitness, adventure, and entertainment.
When Alli is not working out, she is most likely on a road trip, hanging out with friends, having a cocktail or sleeping. She believes that living a healthy life is not always about working out and eating kale. It is about balance and taking in all that life has to offer.
