Q&A with Cynthia Rowley
Cynthia Rowley is known for both her beautiful fashion pieces, and her active lifestyle, which she welcomes you to follow along with through social media. Cynthia Rowley’s collections have meshed activewear into high fashion for quite a few years now, as one of the first to really affirm that activewear is part of the fashion mainstream in a big way. Now, Cynthia is opening a new studio space in NYC, also equipped to host fitness classes and influencers, all motivated by her own active interests. We asked Cynthia to share on everything that’s coming up.
In the past few years, your line has evolved to include high fashion, daywear, fitness, leggings, and even wetsuits. We like to believe that you design based on your current extracurricular interests. Any truth to this?
Yes. We still show a full collection, and have been doing wetsuits and swim for several years. My personal interests are always what inspires new categories for us.
We know you have a long-term love affair with Montauk. What is it about "the end of the world" that you love so much? And you've seen Montauk go from a summer escape to THE summer hot spot - how do you feel about this change?
I just wish it wasn't so crowded in the water.
You are opening a brand new studio space in NYC, and launching a new activewear line for Spring 2015. What is all of this going to look like?
Our new space has a huge first floor where we will be able to invite all our friends to take fitness classes. When we show our third fitness collection in September, we will be adding new categories - socks, bags, and sunglasses.
What is the inspiration for the new line?
Fall will hit stores in August and it's filled with great items - lush floral printed down jackets and vests, metallic details, and mini hearts.
You just recently launched your collection on Net a Sporter, really reinforcing that you are becoming a pillar in the activewear fashion world. What prompted this partnership?
We are thrilled that our first season is available in multiple retail stores and online.
You also lead a healthy lifestyle - what keeps you motivated?
It's sort of a company mantra, everyone is excited to share workouts, wardrobe, and recipes.
What's next in the Cynthia Rowley world?
Beauty with Birchbox, a new store in Honolulu this fall, and a full home collection coming soon - stay tuned.
