At the beginning of 2014, fashion designers from Cynthia Rowley to Todd Snyder paved the way for haute-casual or sports-deluxe clothes during Fashion Week in New York. Now, more than ever, it is not only sexy to be strong, but sexy to wear sweats. Top-notch designers are jumping onto a trend that Nike and Under Armour have had on lock for years, where track pants are replacing the classic Americana t-shirt and jeans. Leggings and comfy sweats are being worn not only for a workout, but also for a night out (and for a night in too).
I have always been a tomboy. I have preferred pants to skirts, and only recently have I taken to wearing dresses (with high top sneakers of course). I was climbing trees and swinging from monkey bars in elementary school. I was swinging on swings as high as I could, and then jumping off mid-height. I was slaying my own dragons, and saving the princes from being locked away in towers.
In college, I preferred sweats to any other piece of clothing. And even now, my dressers are piled with workout gear. Life is just plain better in sweats (sweatshop free, made in USA, if possible). Lucky for me, a few years ago fashion house Celine elevated the sweats look, and now comfy sweats are no longer the baggy men’s Nike basketball sweats of my youth but tailored and comfy. What's best about the new designers taking on this athletic clothing trend is that I no longer feel like I have to change if I have an impromptu meeting or want to go to dinner. And best of all, I do feel sexy in my sweats.
Now with the days getting darker and New York getting colder, I find myself at 5pm wanting to do nothing more than snuggle with my dog and read a good book. The dark and the cold make lounging completely acceptable. And while sometimes I feel guilty for not always being active, there is certainly something great about napping and taking life a little slower.
Cozy up on the couch with some classic flicks - instead of football - while you’re waiting for the turkey to cook on Thanksgiving.
The best part of pre-Thanksgiving prep at my house is that we stay in our PJs all day, spend time together, and cook.
Let yourself get a little cheeky with your loungewear.
We just love that loungewear can be chic, especially with the NYC winter chill.
Cozy at home, or out on the town, we love the weekend. This outfit does double duty.
