Day in the Sweat Life: Farouk Houssein from The Fhitting Room

To be a trainer at The Fhitting Room, a #FhitPro, you have to have the right kind of energy — motivating, sure, but also the kind of energy that makes people happy, keeps people going. Farouk Houssein has that energy to a T, and he is also a serious athlete — he recently competed with the Reebok Crossfit Games team, which finished 5th in the world! Born and raised in Queens, he has always been one of the smallest guys on the field, but played like one of the biggest, an example we can all appreciate. So what’s a Day in the Sweat Life like for Farouk? Read on… 





1. What is the first thing you do when you wake up? 

The first thing I do when I wake up is press snooze! Then, I'll go about the standard morning hygiene routine, and bolt out of the door to kick some butts.

2. What is your go-to workout? 

My go-to workout is high intensity interval training at The Fhitting Room and CrossFit. My programming incorporates a ton of squatting, Olympic weight-lifting work, and skill practice.


3. What does a typical day of meals and snacks look like for you? 

I enjoy cooking, so I try to meal prep as often as I can. Breakfast is turkey bacon, egg, and cheese on an English muffin, and/or oatmeal with almond butter and agave syrup. My standard lunch and dinner meals when I’m on-the-go include a healthy dose of ground turkey meat or grilled chicken, steamed broccoli, and a sweet potato mash. When I have the time to cook dinner, I like to try out new recipes to sharpen my cooking skills. My go-to snack is a cookies and cream Quest Bar or Flavor Blasted Goldfish!

4. What is your favorite indulgence?

A cold beer, preferably an IPA… and Flavor Blasted Goldfish! I can crush a bag in one sitting.


5. What is your healthy living philosophy? 

Strive to be a better you while still having fun! Just like all aspects of life, we shouldn't get too comfortable — it usually leads to laziness. It should be the same for living a healthy lifestyle. Find something you want to get better at, and find a way to chase it down while having fun. Then it won't feel like a chore. Be consistent, strive for progress, and be happy!

6. Do you meditate? 

I do not meditate. However, I do mobility-work before I go to bed, and breathing out the soreness is my version of meditation. It also helps me turn off before bed.

7. What can we find in your gym bag? 

You can find Nike Romaleo weightlifting shoes, Rogue fitness wrist straps, Stance American flag socks, PurePharma omega-3, Rehband knee-sleeves, and a “Move Fast, Lift Heavy” beanie.

8. What is your favorite active wear brand? 

Reebok. They have great shoes and clothing geared towards high intensity functional fitness.

9. What is the last thing you do before you go to bed? 

A ton of stretching and mobility work, I usually eat a casein protein pudding — it is a slow digesting protein that releases protein while I’m asleep, and plenty of snuggles.

10. What or who inspires you?

I am inspired everyday by our clients at The Fhitting Room! As cliché as it sounds, seeing them reach a goal, do a movement for the first time, or get a couple extra reps that they didn't think they had left in them gives me goosebumps!
