Day in The Sweat Life: Kristin Cavallari

We first met Kristin Cavallari as a teen on MTV show Laguna Beach, and again in her early 20s on MTV’s The Hills. Fast-forward to today, and Kristin is better known as author of her new book Balancing in Heels, jewelry designer for her co-founded company Emerald + Duv, wife to Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, and mom to 3 little ones at home. She also speaks frequently in the media about living a healthy lifestyle, keeping active and eating well, no small feat with all she has going on. So what’s a Day in the Sweat Life like for Kristin? Read on…


1. What is the first thing you do when you wake up? 

Drink water!

2. What is your go-to workout? 

Weight training. Right now I'm doing heavy weight and lower reps to build muscle. 

3. What does a typical day of meals and snacks look like for you? 

I usually start my day with greens (powdered greens mixed with water), followed by eggs of some sort, oatmeal, or a smoothie. I always drink a protein shake after I workout in the morning, then lunch is a big salad with protein, lettuce wraps, or a sandwich. I snack in the afternoon and typically have hummus, nuts, muffins, homemade beef jerky, or fruit. Dinner is protein, veggies, and some nights a complex carb like brown rice or farro. I have a huge sweet-tooth, so I have anything from a piece of dark chocolate to a cookie, or ice cream made from either coconut milk or cashews. 

4. What is your favorite indulgence? 

Pasta and sweets. Gnocchi is my all time favorite dish. 

5. What is your healthy living philosophy? 

Healthy 80% of the time — and the other 20% eat whatever I want. That way I never feel deprived. That 80% includes sweets and carbs, if made from wholesome ingredients like oat flour (cookies) or lentil and brown rice flour (pastas). 

6. Do you meditate? 

I try to! I wish I had 10 minutes every morning, but with 3 kids that's nearly impossible. Sleep is more important these days. However, I try to get in at least 5 minutes a few nights a week. 

7. What can we find in your gym bag? 

Vega chocolate protein, an Epic bison cranberry bar, Lululemon black leggings, Nike shoes. 

8. What is your favorite active wear brand? 


9. What is the last thing you do before you go to bed? 

Kiss my husband.

10. What or who inspires you? 

Anyone who tries to have it all, even if one suffers more than the other, I really respect anyone who has that drive and motivation to want it all. It's not easy being a mom, and it's definitely not easy to be a mom and working.
