Tone It Up is one of the hottest workouts in LA. We recently were able to try the workout at Bandier’s Studio B — it’s a serious workout! But Karena and Katrina are all about keeping it fun, cheering on their clients and keeping the mood light and enjoyable. Behind it all, these women are serious powerhouses, traveling the country with their workout that now reaches close to 5 million people. And they just released a new capsule fitness wear collection at Bandier. So what’s a Day in the Sweat Life like for Karena and Katrina? Read on.
1. What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
Karena: I like to hydrate first thing in the morning so I drink a full glass of water. Then – coffee.
Katrina: Check Instagram! I scroll through the various #TIU hashtags to see what my girls have been up to.
2. What is your go-to workout?
Karena: I love yoga, so one of my favorite workouts is our Bikini Yoga Flow. It's perfect for any time of the day when I'm feeling low in energy.
Katrina: A great HIIT or booty workout that works bigger muscle groups is my jam. Our Hitty Bitty Bikini is perfect for those reasons.
3. What does a typical day of meals and snacks look like for you?
Karena: I always start the day with coffee — shots of espresso with a splash of soy milk over ice. Then, breakfast usually consists of a Perfect Fit smoothie. I like to keep it simple with a salad and chicken for lunch. For dinner, [my husband] Bobby and I like to cook together and make something Lean, Clean, and Green!
Katrina: I agree, coffee in the morning, but I like almond milk instead of soy. I love Perfect Fit pancakes or smoothie bowls for breakfast! I like to switch it up for lunch so some days I'll have a quinoa bowl with veggies, others I'll have kale salad with lean protein. I plan out my dinners on Sunday and get inspiration by flipping through our Nutrition Plan Recipe Guide and make whatever sounds amazing to me.
4. What is your favorite indulgence?
Karena: Anyone in the TIU community knows that I LOVE buffalo wings. The spicier the better! Thankfully, we made a healthier version with cauliflower that I can eat in place of it sometimes.
Katrina: Chocolate is a girl's best friend. When a sweet tooth strikes, I like to break off 2 pieces of dark chocolate to satisfy the craving.
5. What is your healthy living philosophy?
K&K: Life is about spending time with the ones you love, eating great food, and feeling good about yourself! That's why we first made the TIU community: we wanted to show women that they always have a support system of strong women who are kickin' booty but still enjoying a glass of wine on a girls night. Life is all about balance.
6. Do you meditate?
We meditate every morning! It helps us set our intention for the day and start off the morning right. We feel off if we don't spend the few minutes each day to close our eyes and clear our minds of clutter.
7. What can we find in your gym bag?
Karena: Phone charger, powder, lip gloss, cold press coffee and juice, and my iPad. I also like to have a set of sneakers, sports bra, and yoga pants with me, just in case.
Katrina: Sunglasses, cell phone, ginger & lemon shot, Perfect Fit Protein single pack, lip balm, phone charger and TIU Mini Bands…. if you follow us on Snapchat you will see that we use them in random places.
8. What is your favorite active wear brand?
K&K: Pumped on our new collection! And we love BANDIER. If you follow our Instagram, you'll see us tag most things we wear. We like to mix it up.
9. What is the last thing you do before you go to bed?
Karena: I always kiss Bobby and Skunk good night.
Katrina: Cuddle with the husband to steal his warmth.
