By Michael Chernow
Michael Chernow is best known as co-founder of The Meatball Shop, but he has also since opened his new eatery — the uber-popular Seamore’s fish restaurant — and is about to launch a fitness drink called WellWell. Michael is big on the fitness scene himself, and encourages his restaurant team to be health-forward as well, sponsoring group fitness challenges, monthly workouts, and more. Oh, and he has a toddler son at home to answer to at the end of the day. So what’s a Day in the Sweat Life like for this busy fella? Read on…
1. What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
Kiss my wife and son, my son wakes up at 5:30 every morning, at which point my wife takes him from the crib to our bed, it's my favorite part of the day. His smile gives me the energy I need for the day!
2. What is your go-to workout?
These days I have been weight training, but classically I am a Muay Thai practitioner and runner.
3. What does a typical day of meals and snacks look like for you?
Morning: 1/2 cup oatmeal made with water, pinch salt, and a little agave. 5 eggs, 1 whole egg, 4 whites.
Snack: Quest Protein bar
Lunch: Kale and avocado salad with a piece of fish from Seamore's
Post workout: Protein shake
Dinner: Some sort of protein with veggies
4. What is your favorite indulgence?
16 Handles soft serve fro-yo stacked high with A LOT of toppings. Also the occasional cigar.
5. What is your healthy living philosophy?
No days off, sleep is for the weak... Haha just kidding.... Kinda.
If you want it, go get it, the only hurdle in between you and your goals.... Is you! That goes for everything: eating healthy, sweating, business, and relationships.
6. Do you meditate?
When I give myself the gift, not as often as I'd like.
7. What can we find in your gym bag?
Lululemon men's gear, Nike trainers, protein powder, bottle of water, headphones, and hat.
8. What is your favorite active wear brand?
I love Lululemon apparel, and Nike for sneakers.
9. What is the last thing you do before you go to bed?
Brush my teeth and take out my contacts.
10. What or who inspires you?
I am inspired by my wife and son first and foremost. I love my family very much, the two of them are what makes me grind hard! I am inspired by guys like Danny Meyer in my industry, who have paved the path for up and comers like me.
