1. What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
Drink a glass of water, while I peek at my emails to see if I missed anything major. Then I get my smoothie ingredients in order to whip up my breakfast while my coffee is brewing.
2. What is your go-to workout?
That's a tough one... I'm sort of split down the middle with running and yoga. I’ve been running for over 10 years and a long run outside always helps me check out and release stress, while yoga helps to balance my bod and stretch and strengthen my tight muscles and hips from years of running. Yoga also helps to relax me after a crazy day, or wakes me up first thing in the morning to get my blood flowing.
3. What does a typical day of meals and snacks look like for you?
As I mentioned earlier, I love a smoothie in the a.m. that usually consists of the below ingredients, in order to get a power packed punch of nutrients, antioxidants, and omegas. I also have a cup of coffee with almond milk for a hit of caffeine!
Smoothie: 1 Cup of Almond Milk, 2 Handfuls of Spinach, 1 Cup Strawberries , 1 Cup Frozen Blueberries, 1 Banana, 1 Cup Granola, 1 Spoonful of Chia Seeds, 1 Scoop Vega One Protein, 1 Sambazon Acai Berry Pack
For lunch, I usually have a salad or a wrap with veggies, and sometimes I'll add grilled chicken or fish for extra protein. I also love to munch on carrots or celery and hummus on the side.
If I need a pick-me-up during the day and I'm on the go, I'll try to grab a juice that has very little sugar and is just fresh juice. I love beets, carrots, kale, and spinach so I look for options that have some, or all, of those ingredients.
For dinner, it depends on if I'm out at an event or with friends, or if I'm home cooking with my husband. If we are out, I'll try to choose a grilled fish dish with no extra sauces, just lemon or olive oil, and a salad. (I have to admit, I LOVE French fries so I'll definitely treat myself sometimes.) If I'm home, it varies from pasta and salad to fish and veggies. Sometimes if it's late or if I'm not super hungry, I'll whip up a wrap with a mix of red grapes, nuts, tomatoes, spinach, avocado, chia seeds, and hummus.
If I'm craving something sweet, frozen or vegan yogurt are my faves topped with chocolate covered acai blueberries or strawberries.
4. What is your favorite indulgence?
5. What is your healthy living philosophy?
Do something active every day, and take some time for yourself to de-stress and unwind. Drink lots of water, have fun, and smile — happiness will follow!
6. Do you meditate?
Not in the traditional sense, but I think my form of meditation is when I'm sitting in the ocean on my surfboard with no one else around, soaking in the salty air, sun, and healthy surroundings. I feel at peace, calm, and one with the earth. Then a wave comes, and there's nothing like catching one and gliding through the ocean with the sea breeze in my hair.
7. What can we find in your gym bag?
A water bottle, Yes to Cucumber face wipes (great post sweat-sesh to freshen up), simple natural lip balm (brands vary but I like Burt’s Bees and Yes to Carrots), a small organic cotton towel, an extra hairband, headphones, and Vira Sun sunnies because they don't slip off my face, no matter what!
8. What is your favorite active wear brand?
It's hard to choose just one since I love so many different sports. If I'm running, I always wear Asics sneakers, and I mix up my sports bras and shorts or bottoms — but I have been loving the Sweaty Betty running gear lately, with fun prints and bold colors. If I'm going to yoga, I love Hard Tail for their soft breathable cotton that stretches and bends with my body, or Onzie Gear is great too, with lightweight leggings in graphics and strappy back detailed sports bras.
9. What is the last thing you do before you go to bed?
I try to stretch a little and unwind, after I check emails one last time and put away the technology. And, if I'm not too pooped from my day, I'll try to read in bed to relax my mind.
10. What or who inspires you?
In general, strong women who juggle it all and find time for happiness, family, AND success. (AKA my mom!) But also, after being a fashion editor for years, I was able to meet Betsey Johnson, and I love how she is still doing what is true to her and what she loves after all these years. She doesn't let the trends, or the times, or outside opinions change her. She is a bright ball of talent and energy and the woman can still do a cartwheel after every fashion show! You go girl!
