So what does a Day in the Sweat Life look like for Shira? Read on.
1. What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
I wake up hungry, so I typically head straight to the kitchen to start prepping breakfast.
2. What is your go-to workout?
I’m a Tracy Anderson Method devotee. It’s one of the only cardio workouts I truly look forward to. And it’s also probably the closest thing I’ll ever come to feeling like I’m in a music video…
3. What does a typical day of meals and snacks look like for you?
It always shocks people, but I eat quite a bit of dietary fat. I try not to eat the same thing every day (because I think it takes some of the fun out of eating), but lately I’ve been all about these incredible gluten-free bagels (from Breakaway Bakery in Los Angeles) with ghee for breakfast with a bunch of water. After my workout I like to have a shake with hemp milk, frozen coconut meat, a date, bee pollen (it’s been helping with my seasonal allergies), and 2 scoops of CLEAN protein powder. One of my all time favorite lunches is coconut curry with veggies and black cod. In the afternoon I’ll snack on some Mary’s Gone Crackers with garlic fluff (whipped garlic, olive oil, and lemon) - which requires a healthy dose of mouth wash afterwards. For dinner one of my go-to’s is braised dark meat chicken with greens, and roasted sweet potato rounds with olive oil, sea salt, rosemary, and thyme.
4. What is your favorite indulgence?
Dark chocolate gives me life. I indulge consciously everyday and savor every square to the fullest.
5. What is your healthy living philosophy?
At the most basic level, food is nourishment and pleasure. And I don’t believe you can live a happy, healthy life without both. So it really boils down to flavor. I’m also a big fan of “everything in moderation, including moderation.”
6. Do you meditate?
Working out has always been a huge source of stress relief for me. It’s where I go to clear my head and blow off steam. I always leave feeling more level-headed.
7. What can we find in your gym bag?
I’m pretty minimalist at the gym: water, my cell phone, sunglasses, and hair ties because I’m constantly losing them…
9. What is the last thing you do before you go to bed?
I’m addicted to rolling my feet out before bed. I bought these Yamuna Feet Wakers about 6 months ago on a random Amazon.com whim, and I’m so in love. Dance cardio does a number on my feet, and this is one of the only things that really gets the knots out.
10. What or who inspires you?
Lately I’ve been really inspired by my clients. I have a young girl who is so wise beyond her years, and has been incredibly brave throughout our work together. I’m inspired when my clients learn to forgive themselves for taking small steps back so they can take small steps forward.
