Day in the Sweat Life: Mark Ribeiro from The Fhitting Room

Mark Ribeiro is one of the most hard-hitting and liveliest trainers at The Fhitting Room. He loves bold, bright colors, tall socks, and encouraging his FHIXers to work hard and strong. You can find him bouncing all over the city, to the Penthouse and Flatiron Fhitting Room locations, and occasionally talking to himself — hey, everyone can use a midday pep talk! So what’s a Day in the Sweat Life like for Mark? Read on.

 

 

 

1. What is the first thing you do when you wake up?

My dad, being a Certified Nutritionist and Personal Trainer, always told me to have a big glass of water right after you wake up. It kick starts your metabolism and gets your body functioning properly to start your day.


2. What is your go-to workout?

Kettlebells, plyometrics, and calisthenics. If I'm swinging, jumping, or doing pull-ups, I am one happy man!


3. What does a typical day of meals and snacks look like for you?

Growing up, my family was very big on cooking and eating family meals. This was passed on to my siblings and I, so when we get together the juices flow and we create beautiful dishes like this one: provolone covered burger au poivre with heirloom tomato chutney, along with corn, arugula, and sweet onion salad, with bacon wrapped asparagus.


4. What is your favorite indulgence?

Pizza! It is so tough for me to walk by pizza places without going in for a slice. It just sits there in the window begging to be eaten.


5. What is your healthy living philosophy?

It is a lifestyle change. I try my best to manage a healthy lifestyle. Changing bad habits to good ones, while being totally realistic in what is achievable, is easier said than done.


6. Do you meditate?

I don’t meditate per say, but I do occasionally talk to myself while walking the city streets as my own form of meditation.


7. What can we find in your gym bag?

Water, phone charger, gum, and a backup pair of socks. I can never have too many pairs of dope socks! (I wear tall socks to compliment my kicks.) My favorite sock brand is Stance!!!

 


8. What is your favorite active wear brand?

I don't have a specific brand that I would call a favorite. If the colors are loud and it is comfortable, I'll wear it. Lately, Nike and Lulu. I have been wearing the new Nike tech fleece collection. Jacket and pants. Lululemon shorts, and I'm looking to get the new Lulu winter jacket. I also have been rocking my NBA gear for the Golden State Warriors.


9. What is the last thing you do before you go to bed?

Check my calendar for the next days’ events. I like to know what I have to look forward to between work and my social life. Keeping a healthy balance between the two is important. I believe in the philosophy of work hard, play hard.


10. What or who inspires you?

I am really inspired by my personal clients and the FHIXers at The Fhitting Room. We deliver some pretty tough and intense workouts. To see our FHIXers’ dedication is really inspiring. It drives me to keep progressing and to become an even better instructor.
