Tory Burch has long been known for stylish, functional wear that has a signature look. Classic, crisp, tailored, but also worldly, curious prints. Now, she has taken her love for sport and the outdoors into her activewear collection, Tory Sport, which debuted at this year’s NY Fashion Week. Each piece is beautifully made, and more than that, each fits a woman’s body beautifully, something we are all looking for from our activewear. Now that Tory has two fashion lines, what is a Day in the Sweat Life like for her? Read on…

Tell us about the Tory Sport line!

It was something I’d wanted to do for a very long time. I kept finding I was wearing things to the gym from high school or college, and not finding things that I really loved in the market. I wanted a different take on color and perspective, but also to really have function as a given and not necessarily a design element. It was something that we spent a tremendous amount of time on: the properties of the fabric, but then we wanted style to be very much part of it. It’s this whole concept of what we call “coming and going,” how you just throw things on that are sporty and can go with leggings, and you can wear it to lunch, and throughout the day.  


1. What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

Get dressed in my athletic clothes, generally, get out of bed, and I have to get to the gym by 6 or it doesn’t happen.           

2. What is your go-to workout?

Elliptical and treadmill in the morning. Definitely a gym girl.


3. What is a typical day of meals and snacks?

I’m not a big breakfast person, although I know I should be, and I snack throughout the day. I don’t have big meals, I have smaller snacks. But I generally have a chicken salad of some sort for lunch. I’m a pretty healthy eater, although I like candy and apricots and raw almonds.   

4. What is your favorite indulgence?

Laffy Taffy from my boys. Quite bright and disgusting.

5. What is your healthy living philosophy?

I’m not a big drinker, I would like to get more sleep, but I think generally I definitely stay out of the sun. I think just eating well and learning not to go out late at night, every night, which was part of my 20s, I think has been a healthier point of view. I generally am pretty healthy, it’s not something I really think about. I have fun, it’s not like I don’t want to have fun. Everything in moderation, because I don't eat all healthy, I’ll have pizza, but I think it’s all about moderation.     

6. Do you meditate?

I don’t meditate, but I want to learn how. I think meditation is important. I have a natural sense of meditation, and it’s something that, when things get frenetic, I get more focused — it’s sort of my own form of meditation. But I have an appointment to learn “how-to.”

7. What can we find in your gym bag?

Apricots and almonds, and I play a lot of tennis, so generally a tennis track suit, and some makeup, I think that’s about it. Moisturizer, lip and sunblock. I always wear sunblock.


8. What’s your favorite activewear line, outside of your own line of course?

Generally I wear Nike and non brands too, but I don’t really have a plan, I just sort of find things that I like.

9. What is the last thing you do before you go to bed?

I kiss my boys every night. I have three boys. 

10. What or who inspires you?

It’s not one person, I think women that have strength and confidence and have been through different situations and come out in a better way who help other women.
