Your skin is your largest organ, responsible for 30% of your body’s detoxification process. It is the first place to show ill health and imbalance, but the last place to receive nutrients. So when we talk about our Mio goal of giving you fit skin for life, you know that we are talking about a very holistic approach. Being fit is not just about your shape, it is about your ability to cope with whatever life throws at you — and the same philosophy applies to your skin. Keep it strong, in peak performance, and it will glow with health and happiness — regardless of hormones and urban living.
Stress also has an enormous effect on our skin. Our lives today are so plugged in, so over-stimulated, stress is inevitable. We need tools that allow us to check out and take a mental and physical breather. Yoga is one such way, and has become so popular because of the mental and physical benefits. Yoga exercises your body from the inside out, giving muscle strength and tone, energy and vitality — PLUS the mental and emotional gains of positivity, stress management, and self-acceptance are immeasurable. (Note to self — practice more yoga.)
It really surprised me when we launched Mio last year, that our restorative bath soak, Liquid Yoga, instantly became our best-seller. But of course, it actually makes perfect sense. We are looking for solutions to help us calm the f down. The benefits of yoga were our inspiration for creating this incredible blend, and it is clearly resonating with women worldwide.
Liquid Yoga is not cheap colour and bubbles. It is a serious bath treatment that has both physical and emotional benefits, something we love, love, love to give through our formulas. It is your personal masseuse in a bottle: helping with muscle fatigue; relaxing tight, stressed shoulders; and soothing tired, achy bodies, while detoxifying and re-energizing. No other bath treatment is as rich in incredible actives. Magnesium-rich Epsom salts and Arnica relieve aches and pains while helping muscles recover, and also help eliminate toxins that prevent your body from reaching its potential. We also added our heady blend of V-Tonic — spearmint, cypress, lavender, mandarin, and chamomile essential oils — to ease your stress and anxiety, plus moisturizing, anti-inflammatory Murumuru Butter so your skin feels as good as your mind upon stepping out of the tub. Importantly, it is Sodium Laureth Sulfate and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) free (the nasty stuff that makes your car soap foam. Really.
Your bath is your check-out time. Set the mood. Set your intentions for your time (sounds a bit like yoga, no?). No technology allowed in the bathroom. Leave that iPhone on mute in a different room. Ideally start your ritual with 3 minutes of dry body brushing to stimulate circulation and help your lymphatic system do its work. Breathe in the gorgeous essential oils, feel the moisturizers and minerals turn the water to silk. Soak for a good 15 minutes. 20 is even better. Just BE. How often do you ever do that? We are human BEINGS, not human DOINGS. Don’t make mental lists of what you are going to do later. Rise from the water renewed, energized, ache-free, hopefully stress free. Send your worries packing, down that drain hole. That’s where they belong.
Still have trouble relaxing or even sleeping well? Active types (ahem, you Sweat Lifers), should up your intake of magnesium-rich foods like dark leafy greens, nuts, and seeds like almonds and pumpkin seeds and avocado. Incidentally, these antioxidant and Omega-rich foods are super-foods for your skin, mind, and body. And that, my dears, is what we call a true triple whammy!
