By Tara Sowlaty, How You Glow
HOW YOU GLOW started over a bowl of food & yoga. My co-founder and partner in crime Jessie Groveman came over to my house where I cooked her my version of Sqirl’s pesto bowl (an amazing restaurant here in LA), and she led me through the most incredible yoga session — and from there on out we knew we had to start something together.
Our overall approach to eating, indulging, beauty, movement, and overall lifestyle were so similar, so we initially set out to create a wellness center where we could combine all of our interests in one — food, yoga, healing, and art alongside a retail space. But our vision seemed to be broader than that; one thing led to the next and before we knew it we created this transformative online space we call HOW YOU GLOW.
I think what’s so special about Jessie and I, is our adaptability and openness to whatever is thrown at us, and I think that’s what makes our partnership work — there is a synergy there. For the past two years, we’ve accomplished everything by just the two of us! We do have individual strengths that compliment each other as well. I feel so lucky to have an incredible partner to go through this incredible journey with. In celebration of everything we have accomplished, and everything we still have on the horizon, here is one of our favorite How You Glow beauty treatments.
1 cup coarse brown sugar
1/2 cup almond oil
8 drops lavender essential oil
Mix your sugar and oil. You want the consistency to remain grainy, not soupy. Add in the lavender essential oil, which will give the scrub an incredible aroma. Place the mixture into jar, and leave the jar in your shower or by your sink.
This scrub is a wonderful exfoliant that you should use in the shower or leave by your sink to cleanse and scuff off dead skin, add moisture and vibrancy, and soothe the skin. The brown sugar acts as a coarse exfoliant agent, but slowly melts away in the shower while scrubbing, which adds a nice smooth texture to your skin. The almond oil is an incredibly nourishing and hydrating oil that get sealed into your skin after exfoliation. The lavender essential oil acts as a calming and soothing agent on your skin — it’s a detoxifying oil, that is highly anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and removes redness. Not to mention, it will make your bath/shower experience incredibly lovely and intoxicatingly filled with lavender scent!
