This time of year, especially in New York City, the cold winter weather wreaks havoc on our skin. The dramatic drop in temperature, the wind chill, and perhaps worst of all, heaters, dry out our skin from the inside out. So, what can you do to help prevent dry, dehydrated, and flaky skin? Try using these 7 products to ward off the winter skin blues.
Lip Balm with Coconut Oil and Vitamin E
Our lips suffer the most in this extreme climate change. It’s important to hydrate those parched lips throughout the day. Make sure you slather a good amount on before bedtime too.
I use a serum year-round, but my skin needs extra attention this time of year. I love this Replenishing Nutrient Complex because I can spot-treat dry patches, or layer it under moisturizer as a serum.
Put aside your lightweight moisturizer for something a little richer this time of year. Try using a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid (it’s a powerful humectant that keeps skin plump and hydrated) for ageless results.
Your hands will show your age before your face does, so protect them by slathering on a rich shea butter-based cream several times throughout the day. I keep one in my car, handbag, nightstand, and bathroom … don’t leave home without it!
It’s important to wear SPF even when the sun doesn’t appear to be shining. This formula is lightweight yet moisturizing. Wear alone, or layer on top of your favorite moisturizer.
Try switching from your regular foaming cleanser to an oil-based cleanser. The natural oils will cleanse the skin and remove makeup without stripping the skin of its natural oils. It’s important to use warm water when you cleanse with oil. The steam will allow your pores to open, and the bad oils to be removed. Your skin will thank you later.
Body Scrub with Yogurt and Sugar
Make your own body scrub out of plain yogurt and white sugar. Mix together and slather on in the shower once a week to exfoliate the dead skin cells. The yogurt will hydrate the skin while the white granulated sugar will slough off layers of dry skin.
